The Trust membership scheme currently has almost 300 members who share an interest in Ribble Motor Services and the work we do to preserve the company’s history. The annual subscription is £25 and members receive a full colour magazine four times a year as well as access to our members Facebook page and the chance to participate in our work.

As well as supporting our overall aims members also have the chance to work directly with the Trust. A whole range of opportunities awaits – some members work regularly at our depot on vehicle preparation, regular maintenance and vehicle restoration. We have plenty of tasks for those with specific skills and those who help in a more general way. Others help out at events by conducting on the bus service, carrying out marshalling, talking to visitors. There’s plenty of enjoyment as well as hard work and a lot of satisfaction in helping a restoration project to completion or successfully delivering a major event.

In the mid-1950s Ribble started renewal of the double deck fleet by buying 120 high bridge PD2s. The 50 purchased in 1955 had Met-Cam bodies and were air braked but for the 1956 batch Ribble reverted to vacuum brakes by buying the PD2/12 model. 1467 was delivered in August 1956 and was allocated to Ormskirk where it stayed for almost 10 years. It had a brief spell at Preston but by April 1967 it was at Blackpool Talbot Road alongside many similar vehicles. By mid 1971 it was on Merseyside, initially at Liverpool depot, then Bootle. It was withdrawn in 1972 and like many other Ribble buses at the time was sold to Cowley at Salford.

By May 1973 it had been purchased by The Northgate Group at Aintree to provide staff transport to their Paula Works which manufactured man made fibres. The company also bought similar 1431. The company later became part of Courtaulds. After being taken out of service in 1980 it was acquired by a preservationist on Merseyside and it was housed at Burscough, home of the Mersey & Calder Group although remaining privately owned. Later it was sold to a RVPG member and moved to our depot.

Similar 1455 was already owned by RVPG members but close inspection revealed that 1467 was in better condition and was the preferred candidate for restoration. Initial work was carried out to rectify some problems with the chassis prior to a full scale restoration.

Work began in earnest in 2017 with a strip down of the bodywork to repair any defective pillars. It was then fully repanelled and new window rubbers fitted. All seat frames were stripped and powder coated and then the re-moquetted seat cushions were fitted. It was originally received by the group without an engine or gearbox but these were transplanted from donor 1455 after thorough refurbishment. By early 2021 most work was completed and the bus was given full internal and external repaints. It was fully operational by late summer and is now part of the operational fleet.
